Netflix’s Avatar series compensates for its own fantasy weaknesses with clever changes to the original

by Mike

We put Netflix’s Avatar to the test in the podcast and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the new fantasy series, which has to pass an immense acid test at the start.
Netflix’s fantasy remake Avatar: Lord of the Elements launched last week, putting the first season of the popular Avatar animated series into a live-action movie guise. The young chosen tamer of all elements, Aang, must once again confront the tyranny of the Fire Nation. But has the big live-action adaptation been a success? What works well in the remake and what doesn’t? We discuss changes and more

Expectations for the Netflix adaptation of Avatar: Lord of the Elements were huge. Especially after the disaster of the first live-action adaptation. So we take a frontline look at the question of whether the Netflix series Avatar is worthwhile. We discuss whether the streamer was able to deliver a worthy fantasy prelude and how well the Avatar cast performs in comparison to the animated series.

When Moviepilot’s biggest Avatar lover Esther and FILMSTART’s biggest Avatar fan Sebastian put their heads together, the second part of the podcast naturally also goes into spoiler territory to evaluate details, Easter eggs and sensible or senseless changes. Because the Avatar interview with the new young stars already showed that Netflix couldn’t live up to all expectations here.
