Film plot and background
Fascinating story about a teenager who, together with his father, guides endangered wild geese from France to Norway in an ultralight plane
Teenager Thomas (Louis Vazquez) would much rather play in his room and play video games than travel to his father Christian’s (Jean-Paul Rouve) rural estate over the holidays. But his mother Paola (Mélanie Doutey) has ordered it so and so the boy reluctantly packs his bags.
Once in Provence, he is soon introduced to his father’s crazy plan. His father is a naturalist and wants to ensure the survival of an endangered species of wild geese. When a new brood hatches, they must first learn a flight path before they can fly it themselves. Christian wants to show the young birds the way in an ultra-light aircraft – from France to Norway!
Thomas is supposed to help him find the safest route. The initial scepticism quickly fades as the bond between the birds and Thomas grows stronger. In order to save the animals, he soon experiences the adventure of a lifetime at dizzy heights.
“The Boy and the Wild Geese” – background and cinema release
In rural France lives meteorologist Christian Moullec, who has successfully guided an endangered species of geese from Norway to France with the help of an ultralight aircraft. For years, he has been campaigning for the protection of endangered animals in spectacular campaigns, such as publishing the novel “Flying with the Wild Geese”. The story in “The Boy and the Wild Geese” is based on his descriptions.
Director Nicolas Vanier creates a great memorial to the life of Christan Moullec and a fiery plea for nature conservation, packaged in a touching coming-of-age story full of wit, charm and a positive message.
Newcomer Louis Vazquez, Jean-Paul Rouve (“Life is a Feast”) and Mélanie Doutey (“A Pool Full of Men”) star in the main roles. Unfortunately, nothing came of the planned cinema release on 9 April 2020 due to the Corona crisis. Instead, you can find “The Boy and the Wild Geese” directly for streaming in the Amazon Prime Flatrate.
