Many will know him as Hagrid from “Harry Potter”, but Robbie Coltrane can also look back on a long and eventful career as an actor beyond that. Now he has passed away at the age of 72.
Robbie Coltrane passed away on 14 October 2022 at the age of 72. To much of the public, Coltrane may have been best known for his role as the mild-mannered half-giant Rubeus Hagrid, fatherly friend and gamekeeper of Hogwarts to Harry, Ron and Hermione. Coltrane played this role in all eight films from “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. “

Coltrane has also appeared in a number of major films and series. He starred in the crime series “Für alle Fälle Fitz” (original title “Cracker”), played alongside and directed by Kenneth Branagh in “Henry V”, in the fantasy adventure “Van Helsing” and in “James Bond 007 – GoldenEye” and “James Bond 007 – The World Is Not Enough” as ex-KGB agent Valentin Zukovsky.
The last role of the Scotsman born Anthony Robert McMillan (Robbie Coltrane was his stage name) was in the British series “Urban Myths”, in which he embodied director legend Orson Welles (“Citizen Kane”). He also appeared with many other cast members in the “Return To Hogwarts” special released in 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the “Harry Potter” series.
