Halloween Ends is supposed to be the grand finale of the Halloween series. Yet many fans left the cinema very disappointed because of its Michael Myers twist.
Warning, spoilers follow!
44 years after the first Halloween movie, the grand finale of the iconic horror series is currently playing in cinemas. Halloween Ends marks the final chapter in the story of Michael Myers. The big twist: The serial killer barely appears in the film. Most of the time he hides in the sewers of Haddonfield.
Halloween Kills deals in depth with the question of where evil comes from and how it can be transmitted. Sometimes there is talk of a virus. Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) proves to be the most exciting character in this regard, taking over the role of Michael Myers as the killer for a large part of the film.
Controversial horror finale: this is why Michael Myers barely appears in Halloween Ends
This decision is not well received by many Halloween fans. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director and co-writer David Gordon Green reveals why he chose this version of the Halloween finale.
“I wanted to provide a new perspective on Michael Myers, Laurie Strode and the family. And I wanted to introduce a new central character to explore these characters and the town. [The Halloween series tells] the story of a stalker and the many traumatic effects it has on Laurie Strode’s life. But now I wanted to find out how it all affects [Haddonfield]. “

The new approach has also allowed Green to accommodate a type of horror in the film that was previously absent from the series due to Michael Myer’s demeanour as a serial killer.
“I wanted to explore [a character] who mimics these [acts] of violence, but she’s messy and doesn’t know how to do it exactly. Instead of a clean cut, [Corey] rams a corkscrew down her throat […]. That’s something Halloween movies don’t really do because it doesn’t fit the character of Michael Myers, but I wanted that midnight movie madness. “
Halloween Ends has been running in German cinemas since 13 October 2022. Here you can find all the important info about the end of the Halloween series at a glance. For the time being, no new film from the franchise is planned. However, it should only be a matter of time before the legend of Michael Myers comes to life again.
