Will the “Harry Potter” prequel series end prematurely? Update on

by Dennis

It’s been six months since “Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets” opened in the cinema. And so far we haven’t heard anything about the sequel. Lead actor Eddie Redmayne feels the same way…

There were supposed to be five “Fantastic Beasts” films, three of which we have already seen. But there have been rumours for quite some time that the series will end prematurely and that Part 4 and Part 5 will not be made after all. Because the “Harry Potter” prequel series has not only had to deal with scandals surrounding Johnny Depp, J.K. Rowling and Ezra Miller in the past, but also with falling viewer numbers.

After “Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets” was released on 7 April 2022, it would be about time for the first info on “Fantastic Beasts 4” to be revealed. When will it be filmed? Who is playing in it? For example, if Part 4 were to be released two years after the start of Part 3, it would have to start slowly, since filming and post-production take a while. But even lead actor Eddie Redmayne, who plays the magizoologist Newt Scamander, doesn’t know anything about a fourth film yet…

In an interview with Indiewire, Redmayne was asked if he could give an update and have any information about Fantastic Beasts 4: “I don’t have that. I think that’s more a question for J.K. Rowling, [director] David Yates and Warner. But I don’t know anything, unfortunately. I can’t help with that. But I love playing Newt, he’s a lovely guy.”

This doesn’t exactly speak to the fact that Fantastic Beasts 4 is in the works right now. After all, Redmayne replied that he didn’t know anything about it, not that he wasn’t allowed to say anything – which is common. Of course, it is still possible that Redmayne is simply keeping a low profile. But it’s more likely that the sequel is indeed on the back burner, as has been speculated in the industry for some time.

“FANTASTIC BEASTS 3” WOULD BE A WORTHY CONCLUSION

While this doesn’t necessarily mean that “Fantastic Beasts 4” and “Fantastic Beasts 5” really aren’t coming. But Warner Bros. is not sure enough about the matter to have given the green light yet. It is possible that they are now thinking for a while in the background about how the series can still be saved – or that the plug is actually being pulled.

In any case, “Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets” seems to have been deliberately designed in such a way that it could also function as the conclusion of the series. Instead of a big cliffhanger that makes you curious about the next part, the film finale presented the conclusion of many important storylines.
