The sci-fi horror of the Alien series finally continues. After Ridley Scott’s prequel plans were thrown out the window, Alien: Romulus officially picks up steam.
The next chapter in the Alien saga announces itself with exciting news. After Ridley Scott’s plans for the conclusion of his Prometheus trilogy were thrown out the window, the franchise is in the hands of Fede Alvarez. Now there is first information about the start of shooting of the new Alien film.
Based on a report by the Film & Television Industriy Alliance filming will start as early as 6 February 2023 in Budapest, where big Hollywood blockbusters such as Dune have also been filmed recently. Furthermore, the working title of the new Alien film is known: Get Ready for Alien: Romulus.
Alien: Romulus promises to be a sci-fi horror film inspired by Roman mythology
After Prometheus – Dark Signs already featured a reference to Greek mythology, Alvarez’s Alien entry draws on Roman mythology. Romulus – along with his brother Remus – is the founder of the city of Rome (753 BC) and a son of Mars, the god of war, and Rhea Silvia, the priestess.

It’s unclear whether the working title already reveals anything about the plot of the new Alien film. In any case, the story of Romulus does not lack interesting motifs. A she-wolf as a surrogate mother, a conflict between two brothers and the fate of a city: Alien can certainly borrow an idea or two here.
The Film & Television Industriy Alliance report also confirms the project’s key personnel. While Alvarez will serve as director, Scott returns as producer. The screenplay is by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues. And the leading actress is Cailee Spaeny, known from Mare of Easttown.
