The most anticipated Netflix film of the year opens tomorrow – and Glass

by Mike

Netflix’s biggest movie highlight of December is just around the corner: tomorrow sees the arrival of Glass Onion (aka Knives Out 2), starring Daniel Craig as an eccentric private detective, and it’s guaranteed not to disappoint.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery finally launches on Netflix tomorrow, 22 December. Just in time for the Christmas season to make us forget about mediocre streaming mass-produced goods and the annoyance of numerous cancelled Netflix series. Because we can already tell you now: You’re totally justified in looking forward to the Knives Out sequel.

Knives Out 2: Glass Onion continues terrific crime series on Netflix

Truly, you don’t even need to have seen Detective Benoit Blanc’s first case to enjoy Glass Onion on Netflix. The only unifying element of the films is the eccentric private eye himself, once again brought to life by Daniel Craig with great gusto (and in English, again with a glorious Southern accent). No one asks for his James Bond after that.

This time Benoit Blanc travels to Greece, where tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) has invited a group of illustrious friends to his private island: In a murder game, the guests are to find out who killed their host. But of course not everything goes as planned and while past quarrels boil up in the group, the game quickly turns bitterly serious. One thing is certain: Whoever sits in the glass onion of Miles’ extravagant home should not throw stones.

Why Glass Onion is definitely worth watching on Netflix

The acclaimed crime thriller prequel Knives Out set the bar high for the sequel. But thankfully, Glass Onion doesn’t have to hide from that legacy. With the first film, Rian Johnson’s sequel shares its love for quirky characters. In its narrative structure, however, Part 2 has a few surprises in store.

Whether the crime plot in Glass Onion has more or less convoluted twists than its predecessor is for everyone to judge for themselves when they visit Netflix. What is noticeable, however, is that the sequel has even more humour. This ranges from astute pandemic observations and screamingly funny jokes on social media use to biting commentary on the rich, powerful and beautiful of this world.

The heart of Glass Onion’s whodunnit fun is, of course, the spot-on cast of stars. Although it’s hard to decide whether Edward Norton’s self-absorbed Elon Musk knock-off, Dave Bautista’s men’s rights activist or Kate Hudson’s ex-model with no sense of self-censorship takes home the trophy for favourite absurdist character. And we’re not even giving away any of the cameos yet…. But shhh! Oh happy crime time.
