What would the intro to “The Boys” look like if the series wasn’t produced in 2019, but sometime in the 70s? A pretty cool video now shows us a retro VHS intro to the wacky superhero series.
Fire up the VCR, the new episode of “The Boys” is about to start! What would the intro to “The Boys” look like if the brutal superhero series was a sitcom set in the 70s? Amazon thought about it and published a pretty cool video.

This video is sold as a 90s sitcom intro, but honestly, sitcom intros in the 90s looked entirely different. The short intro clip is much more reminiscent of series like “Happy Days” or “Sanford and Son” than of “Friends” or “King of Queens”. This mistake was also criticised in the Twitter comments on the video.
Here we have included the trailers for classic 70s sitcoms “Happy Days” and “Sanford and Son” for comparison. Here is the intro to “Happy Days”:
And here is the intro to “Sanford and Son”:
Nevertheless, the video is already pretty cool done. All the image errors and the blurred look alone bring back memories of VHS tapes that have been dubbed over countless times. The clip also makes you want to experience our favourite supes Homelander, A-Train and The Deep in a 70s setting. How about a “The Boys” spin-off, completely retro and set in the 70s?
WHAT’S NEXT FOR “THE BOYS”?
Besides retro fantasies, there is also concrete news from “The Boys” universe. Of course, it will probably be a while before season 4 starts on Prime Video, as filming for the new season has only begun in August 2022. We therefore don’t expect a start before the end of 2023.
We won’t have to wait quite as long for “The Boys: Gen V”: The college spin-off is expected to be available on Amazon Prime Video in summer 2023. This one is about a university for young people with superpowers, where the Supes of tomorrow are trained. In the Godolkin University For Crimefighting, the junior heroes have to compete against each other in a series of competitions in the style of “The Tribute to Panem”. The first trailer, which we have embedded below, promises bloody action and wacky humour – in the style of the original series.
