After the Iron Man ending in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. is looking for new acting challenges. A good opportunity for him to do so is probably The Sympathizer.
In the upcoming series from Oldboy director Park Chan-wook, the Avengers star is set to embody multiple characters through a surreal twist. Now, the first set photos for the HBO series have hit the web, and Downey Jr. is barely recognisable.

Robert Downey Jr. plunges into acting excess after the MCU
The upcoming Park Chan-wook series is based on the novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, which won critical acclaim and a Pulitzer Prize in 2016. The plot revolves around a communist spy during the Cold War who has French and Vietnamese roots and is exiled to the US.
Through a surreal twist, Robert Downey Jr. is set to play multiple villains who are part of the American establishment. Now set photos for The Sympathizer have hit the web, showing a rather transformed Downey Jr. in one of the roles:
