Avatar 2 continues its run at the box office. Director James Cameron’s sci-fi blockbuster is now the 3rd highest-grossing movie of all time.
Avatar 2: The Way of Water is unstoppable. A good two months after its theatrical release, the film’s takings have left behind, among others, the Marvel highlight Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now a new milestone has been reached: the sci-fi smash hit is the third most successful film of all time.

This is reported by Screen Crush among others, looking at Box Office Mojo figures . According to the report, Avatar 2 has overtaken Cameron’s own epic Titanic to become the third most successful film in history, currently grossing $2.24 billion. Only Avengers 4: Endgame and the first Avatar were more successful.
James Cameron in particular must be giddy at such figures. After all, two of the three most successful films of all time are now Avatar parts. And three of the four most successful films were made by him.
Whether Avatar 2 will climb the best list anytime soon, however, seems doubtful. Avengers 4 will be a tough nut to crack with a full $500 million gap, not to mention the $700 million of its Pandora predecessor.
It should be noted that these are not inflation-adjusted figures. With inflation taken into account, Gone with the Wind has towered above all other films for decades in most projections (via Games Radar ).
