Daniel Craig delivered absolutely brilliant performances as James Bond. He also succeeded in a bravura performance in the thriller Blinded by directorial genius David Fincher, which is now available on Netflix.
The 007 role tends to outshine all other performances by an actor. This may be true of Daniel Craig as well. Besides the British agent, many of his other performances come up short. One of the best of these is now available to watch on Netflix. In Verblendung by master director David Fincher (Fight Club), he wades through a black swamp of human cruelty as a journalist.
On Netflix: James Bond star Daniel Craig plays acclaimed crime thriller character
Journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig), convicted of libel, is sent to solve a mystery for entrepreneur Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer). In the mid-1960s his young niece disappeared without a trace, and since then an unknown person has sent him black flowers every year on his birthday. Together with the hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), Blomkvist sets off in search of clues. And unveils an incredibly gruesome secret.
With this film, Fincher has adapted the first book of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy, which had already been brought to the screen shortly before by director Niels Arden Oplev. The Fight Club maker creates an extremely dense, dark atmosphere in which the disturbing finale has a special impact.
The film’s punch is not least the merit of Craig, Mara and their cast-mate Stellan Skarsgård. Rarely have dusty family secrets felt so much like horror on screen. Even the beautiful Swedish countryside feels like a vast realm of crime scenes in Dazzling.
