According to initial reports, Martin Scorsese’s new film with Leonardo DiCaprio was supposed to be nearly four hours long. Now the master director has confirmed the final running time himself.
Whoever wants to watch the new Martin Scorsese film in theaters instead of streaming it on Apple TV+ will have to watch their bladder. After The Irishman was already a whopping 3 hours and 29 minutes long on Netflix last time, the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon with Leonardo DiCaprio goes almost as long again. This confirmed the master director now personally.
New true crime epic from Martin Scorsese is nearly three and a half hours long
As Deadline reports, the director has completed the final cut of the upcoming epic. Killers of the Flower Moon will officially be 206 minutes or 3 hours and 26 minutes long.
This makes it a full three minutes shorter than Scorsese’s last Netflix film, but still another massive epic that tops the running times of overlong blockbusters like Avengers 4: Endgame and Avatar 2: The Way of Water.
Scorsese’s upcoming true-crime adaptation based on the nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI tells the true story of a series of murders of members of an indigenous tribe in the 1920s state of Oklahoma.
The plot centers on ruthless rancher William Hale (Robert De Niro), who is greedy for the wealth and resources of his indigenous neighbors. Hale’s nephew Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) is married to Osage native Mollie (Lily Gladstone), who holds large shares of her people’s wealth. When several members of her tribe are brutally murdered, FBI agent Tom White (Jesse Plemons) sets out to solve the crimes.
Following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Killers of the Flower Moon will first hit theaters in Germany on October 16, 2023. It will then be released later as a stream on Apple TV+.
