Season 1 of The Rings of Power wouldn’t clarify the fate of an important character, though every Lord of the Rings fan knows exactly what happens. Now an image confirms the return.
Watch out, spoilers follow!
The season 1 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power featured some exciting revelations and confirmed various theories previously put forth by fans of the series. Mount Doom erupts. Sauron shows his true colors. And the Stranger moves closer in the direction of a familiar wizard.
However, there was one cliffhanger that the season 1 finale refused to resolve: the fate of Isildur. When we last saw him, he was buried under the rubble of a burning house. I wonder if he survived. For some inexplicable reason, the Lord of the Rings series has made a big mystery out of that.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 reveals that Isildur is still alive
Those who are reasonably familiar with Tolkien’s Middle Earth cosmos know that Isildur will still play an important role, especially in light of the events leading up to the War of the Rings. Now a new set image reveals what we assumed anyway: Isildur returns. At Redanian Intelligence you can also have a look at it.
The trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1:
Maxim Baldry is back as Isildur – and he’s not alone. In the set picture, shot during filming at Frensham Little Pond in England, he can be seen with Nia Towle. It is not yet known what role Towle plays. Redanian Intelligence speculates that it could be Isildur’s future wife. She has never been given a name by Tolkien. The series could thus fill a gap in the otherwise very precisely worked out Middle Earth story.
