On RTL runs on Sunday evening Killer’s Bodyguard 2 with Ryan Reynolds. After part 1 was a great financial success, the sequel failed at the box office.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds scored a surprise hit in 2017 with the crude action-comedy Killer’s Bodyguard. The $30 million blockbuster grossed a whopping $183 million worldwide.
The sequel was thus quickly a done deal, but could not repeat this success. Killer’s Bodyguard 2, which will be broadcast by RTL as a German free-TV premiere on Sunday at 20:15, flopped at the box office.
Action comedy with Ryan Reynolds offers entertaining entertainment that went down at the cinema
In the sequel, Reynolds takes time off as bodyguard Michael Bryce to recover from the rigors of his job. But the rest doesn’t last long, because suddenly the hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) shows up again and drags him into a new chaos. This time, Darius’ wife Sonia (Salma Hayek) is in on it, and she even outshines the killer in terms of crude repartee.
Four years after Killer’s Bodyguard, the sequel again relies on the same entertainment factors as Part 1, including the witty dynamic between Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool mode and Samuel L. Jackson in Samuel L. Jackson mode. In addition to the snappy action, Salma Hayek is the highlight from Killer’s Bodyguard 2. Her stormy nature is so much fun to watch that hopefully the actress will be seen more often in similar roles.
In the cinema, on the other hand, far too few people were interested in the action comedy. Killer’s Bodyguard 2 grossed exactly $70 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million and is thus considered a hefty flop. So, unfortunately, fans shouldn’t have high hopes for a hinted third part…
