Tonight on TV comes the second part of the fantasy series Percy Jackson, which is very similar to the Harry Potter films. However, we will never see Percy Jackson 3.
After the incredible success of the first Harry Potter films, every studio in Hollywood was interested in fantasy material that regularly attracted an audience of millions to the cinema. Thus, in the 2000s, film adaptations of Narnia and Eragon awaited us. Another important title was Percy Jackson: Thieves of Olympus.
At the time, 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) wanted to create its own Harry Potter with the Percy Jackson films. They even hired director Chris Columbus for the first part, who had brought the first two Hogwarts school years to the big screen. However, the series did not exist for long.
Fantasy adaptation: Percy Jackson failed at the cinema, but gets a second chance at Disney+
After Percy Jackson 2: Under the Spell of the Cyclops, it was already over. The sequel released in 2013 marked the end of the fantasy series, which was supposed to get at least a third part. In the years following the cinema release, however, it became clear that Percy Jackson 3 with Logan Lerman would never be realised.

The nail in the coffin for the Percy Jackson films was the announcement of the reboot: in May 2020, Disney confirmed that it was working on a series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which would retell the story. For many fans, the news actually went down very well. Because this time Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan is directly involved.
Riordan has let it slip several times that he was not at all enthusiastic about the Percy Jackson films. He wants to get everything right with the series, which is being made exclusively for the streaming service Dsney+. The remake is scheduled to premiere in 2024. Season 1 comprises eight episodes and is based on the first book.
