In Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Cosmo is a bitch, not a dog. On Twitter, James Gunn was criticised for this, to which the director directly defended himself
One of the most iconic Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 characters is Cosmo the space dog. When the character first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy, the dog was still a male. The character is also male in the comics. Some people probably can’t believe that Cosmo is now female in part 3 of the Marvel series. On the net, director James Gunn explained his decision of gender change perfectly.

On Twitter, the director responded to criticism that changing Cosmo’s gender doesn’t make sense compared to the comics. Gunn explains that he based the character on the real-life role model Laika. This is a Russian dog that was the first living creature to be transported into space. He also argues that many other characters were also completely changed:
I’d rather honour the real dog who died in outer space. Cosmo would not exist without Laika. By the way, I changed Mantis, Drax, High Evo, and others from humans to aliens, which seems a bigger change. Why does it upset you so much?

Currently, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still playing in theatres. The MCU film could be coming to Disney+ streaming subscription in late July or early August.
