The first reviews have appeared for the superhero blockbuster The Flash. Not everyone loves the DC blockbuster, many even show themselves annoyed or bored.
The road to the theatrical release of The Flash couldn’t have been rockier. The assaults of star Ezra Miller, the complete restructuring of the DC universe by James Gunn, various obstacles hampered the production. But long before its release, it was being called the best superhero movie in a long time. Now the first major reviews are in. And they don’t agree.
Critics are divided on DC’s The Flash
In fact, there are many extremely positive voices. Deadline calls the blockbuster “the best superhero movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “one of the best superhero movies of the 21st century”, writes the London Evening Standard. Many voices praise Miller’s performance, Michael Keaton’s Batman appearance and the visual effects.
For a film that was so hyped in advance, however, there is a surprising amount of disappointment. The Flash is entertaining but has no new ideas, according to The Guardian . The Austin Chronicle notes that the film “pathetically” devolves from imaginative superhero hopeful to soulless bombast. Variety agrees, faulting the “haphazard” staccato of characters and themes.
On the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes The Flash currently stands at 73% critical rating. This is far better than the last DC films Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods and Black Adam. But it is obviously not the expected masterpiece for many. So far, DC has no official plans for further The Flash films.
