The release of the next Mission Impossible film is not far away. You can read here when and how it will continue after the dramatic conclusion with Dead Reckoning Part 2 and who will be returning.
Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One celebrates its theatrical release on 13 July 2023 and if the title of the action blockbuster hasn’t made you wonder yet, by the end of the film at the latest you will be asking yourself the pressing question of when the sequel Mission: Impossible 8 – Dead Reckoning Part Two is coming. For despite euphoric reactions, the new adventure of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) leaves us with some answers.
When does Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two start?
To date, there have always been three to five years between the launches of each Ethan Hunt adventure. But since the latest Mission Impossible film was partly shot in a double pack with its sequel, the wait for Part 8 is much shorter: Dead Reckoning 2 already has a German theatrical release on 27 June 2024 – that is, in less than a year.
Mission Impossible 8: What can we expect in the 2nd part of Dead Reckoning?
Warning, massive spoilers to Mission Impossible 7 follow from here on: In the 1st part of Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt chases after a key that can be used to control or destroy the threat of a new AI entity. Although his adversary Gabriel (Esai Morales) seems to have the upper hand for a long time, Tom Cruise’s character is finally in possession of both necessary parts of the key at the end of the film. But the key still needs a lock and so Ethan’s path in Part 2 must lead him under the ice to the sunken submarine Sevastopol, which he knows about through Paris (Pom Klementieff).
With the key, this submarine shown at the beginning of Mission Impossible 7 holds the solution to the question of how artificial intelligence can be defeated (thanks to beta tests and source codes). For the AI threatens to plunge the now largely digitally dependent world into chaos. But because his adversary is the only one who knows the exact location of the torpedoed submarine, Ethan needs Gabriel to get to his destination.
The renewed encounter of the bitter enemies should provide enough fuel for the second film. For one thing, Ethan still has a score to settle with Gabriel after Ilsa Faust’s (Rebecca Ferguson) death, which he can only settle when the submarine is found. On the other hand, Mission Impossible 8 also has to explain to us what happened between the two old acquaintances in Ethan’s past before his IMF career and what a certain Marie (Mariela Garriga) had to do with it.
New crazy stunts and mask illusions are guaranteed in Dead Reckoning 2. At the same time, there will be a reunion with many familiar figures.
