Season 7 of the animated sci-fi cult series “Rick And Morty” brings – at least in the original – a big change: Justin Roiland will no longer voice the two main characters. Who will replace him, however, remains a mystery even in the teaser.
For six seasons, “Rick And Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland lent his distinctive voice in the original English to both Rick, the ingenious and perpetually drunk scientist, and his flighty grandson Morty (as well as many supporting characters in the series). As of season 7, however, that’s over. Following serious allegations of domestic violence against Roiland, Adult Swim has terminated its collaboration with the author and narrator.
Rick and Morty will henceforth sound different on their crazy intergalactic and interdimensional adventures – at least a little (and probably at least until the tenth season, to which the series was already extended a few years ago). As Adult Swim already revealed, someone will be hired for the parts who sounds similar to Roiland or can imitate his Rick-and-Morty voices well (whether it will be one or two people is still unclear).

This goes the opposite direction of Roiland’s other animated hit, “Solar Opposites,” which saw “Legion” star Dan Stevens take the vocal helm on one of the main characters in the new episodes, making her sound nothing like she did before – but which was also wittily incorporated into the sci-fi storyline.
NO NEW RICK AT THE END OF THE TRAILER
Who exactly now replaces Roiland in “Rick And Morty” and how close the result will be to the original, however, remains unclear – and this despite the fact that a teaser trailer for season 7 has now been released. It presents us with a glimpse (also enriched with older scenes) of the usual crazy (and dark) multiverse madness surrounding the upcoming battle between Rick and his nemesis Rick Prime, but does without dialogue (for the most part), instead merely underscoring the whole thing with the song “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by the Smashing Pumpkins.
Only at the very end does Rick briefly have his say. However, this is a scene from the end of the sixth season, so we do not hear an imitator (yet), but Justin Roiland himself. By the way, these changes behind the scenes should not have any impact on the German synchro.
“RICK AND MORTY” SEASON 7 FROM FALL 2023 – ALSO IN GERMANY?
The seventh “Rick And Morty” season will start in the fall of 2023 on Adult Swim – when exactly, it has not yet been announced, but according to the official social media channels to the series then next week will be revealed (possibly then also in conjunction with a full trailer that reveals the new voices).
In this country, the episodes will then presumably appear again in parallel with the US release on the pay TV channel Warner TV Comedy and will then also be available on the Sky streaming service WOW. A few months later, they should also find their way back to Netflix, where the first six seasons can currently be streamed.
