Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro – you don’t really need more reasons to go to the cinema for “Killers Of The Flower Moon”. The new trailer gets you in the mood for the over 200 minute long, grandiose true-crime drama:

When one of the greatest filmmakers of our time comes around the corner with a new movie, it’s always something special. But when it also brings together his two regular actors – both of whom are among the greatest actors of their generation – there’s really no reason not to go to the movies for it. “Killers Of The Flower Moon” is such a film.

“Taxi Driver”, “GoodFellas” and “The Wolf Of Wall Street” director Martin Scorsese unites Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio in his latest mammoth work in a bloodcurdling true story that may even make “Killers Of The Flower Moon” one of the darkest films of the year. With just over a month to go before its theatrical release, a new trailer now gets you in the mood for the nearly three-and-a-half-hour true-crime drama – which we can only warmly recommend to all fans of great cinema. We have already seen the film in the course of the Cannes Film Festival and are very excited about it.

Good to know: “Killers Of The Flower Moon” will be released in German cinemas on October 19, 2023 – after which the film will be available exclusively on Apple TV+. However, if the trailer, which is already visually stunning even on the small screen, suggests one thing, it’s that the 207-minute-long historical epic should definitely be experienced in a movie theater. It is not for nothing that the film version of the terrible true events that took place in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century will also be shown on numerous IMAX screens.

THIS IS “KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON “

In 1870, the Osage people, who had been driven out again and again, finally succeed in settling in a new homeland – from which, secured by treaty, they cannot be driven out again so quickly. But the tide begins to turn when, years later, oil is discovered in the inhospitable region that initially interested no one. Suddenly the Osage are the richest people far and wide.

It isn’t long before white invaders move into the country to rob the original inhabitants of their money. When war returnee Ernst Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) comes to the area, he enters the service of his wealthy uncle, cattle baron William Hale (Robert De Niro), who is considered a great supporter of the Osage.

However, when Ernst falls in love with and eventually marries the Osage Mollie (Lily Gladstone), Hale senses a chance to get his hands on Mollie’s oil-rich land this way. What follows shortly after is a series of deaths among the Osage – so that the natives are increasingly dealing with fear…

“EPIC CINEMA LIKE NO ONE MAKES ANYMORE “

“Epic cinema, as unfortunately no one makes it anymore, except Martin Scorsese”, promises FILMSTARTS editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen, who awards 4.5 out of 5 possible stars in his review. This refers to, but by no means limited to, the film’s XXL format. (The last film with a running time of over 200 minutes that many are likely to have seen in theaters is probably “The Irishman,” also directed by Scorsese).

The FILMSTARTS review is therefore also a thank-you to Apple, since the Apple company stepped into the breach as a studio to support the 200-million-dollar project, while the classic Hollywood system got cold feet. And all the effort, all the expense more than paid off: The result is a “super dark, mean-spirited, infuriating true-crime drama, staged with tremendous effort and visual bravura, and carried by terrific acting performances across the board. “
