In the hotel horror “Bad Things” stars from “Barbie”, “Dahmer”, “House Of The Dragon” and the upcoming sci-fi smash “The Creator” are waiting for you, as well as an obviously plenty crazy story. Here is the trailer:
A creepy, vacant hotel in the snow, psychological problems of the main characters, a bar with imaginary bar staff, creepy twins and a lot more – the psycho-slasher “Bad Things” is apparently heavily influenced by Stanley Kubrick’s masterful Stephen King adaptation “Shining”. In addition, director Stewart Thorndike (“Lyle”), who incidentally played a supporting role in “Eyes Wide Shut”, the last work of the ingenious filmmaker, has apparently also incorporated some of her own ideas. Is that enough for you to put “Bad Things” on your watchlist?
In June 2023, the psychological and horror thriller celebrated its world premiere at the renowned Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. It has been streaming in the U.S. on the genre service Shudder for a few days now. When and how we will be able to experience “Bad Things” in Germany has not yet been announced.
If you want to watch “Shining” (again) to bridge the gap until a local launch, you can currently do so in the flat rate program of your subscription to the streaming service WOW (formerly Sky Ticket):
“Bad Things” stars Gayle Rankin from “GLOW” and the upcoming second season of “House Of The Dragon,” Hari Nef (“Barbie”), Rad Pereria (“The Creator”) and Annabelle Dexter-Jones (“Ravage – One By One”).
Molly Ringwald, the star of such 1980s classics as “Breakfast Club” and “Pretty In Pink,” also appears in a supporting role that looks quite interesting in the trailer. Most recently, the Californian has been active primarily with series appearances in “Riverdale” and the Netflix hit “Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer”, among others.
“BAD THINGS”: THIS IS THE STORY
Ruthie (Gayle Rankin) has inherited a mountain hotel from her late grandmother. In order to see the property and prepare it for sale, the young woman decides to vacation there first with her partner Cal (Hari Nef). To make the week in the snow more fun, the couple Maddie (Rad Pereira) and Fran (Annabelle Dexter-Jones), who are friends with the two, also join them.
But the fun is quickly dampened by a few personal problems: Fran reports that she is struggling with cancer and is also very interested in rekindling her former relationship with Ruthie. Over the therefore richly irritated Ruthie brews however still further disaster: While she herself devotes herself more and more to the absurd videos of an online business consultant named Auerbach (Molly Ringwald), Maddie begins to see ghosts in the empty building …
