New Delhi is the capital of India. But the city’s public infrastructure can hardly cope with its nearly 20 million inhabitants. The residents of New Delhi are struggling with India’s severe pollution and the consequences of climate change. For many of them, it is a matter of breathing air, clean drinking water and a place for mere existence. Those struggling to survive on a daily basis are juxtaposed with the AC society who own air conditioners and are only worried about rising electricity prices.
“Invisible Demons” – background, cinema release
Filmmaker Rahul Jain’s documentary “Invisible Demons” uses depressing images to show the drastic consequences of India’s growing economy. It is about more than the capital of India, the film also highlights our collective climate reality.
Rahul Jain made his directorial debut with the documentary “Machines” in 2016. The film about the lives of workers in a large textile factory in Gujarat, India won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. “Invisible Demons” is now being hailed as the Indian filmmaker’s befitting follow-up. At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Rahul Jain received a standing ovation for the impressively honest documentary.
