Film plot and background
Russian science fiction film about an architect who falls into a coma after an accident and wakes up in a world that defies all laws of physics.
A talented young architect (Rinal Mukhametov) is hospitalised with serious injuries after an accident and falls into a coma. When he awakens, he finds himself in a dystopian parallel world. His new environment is fed by the memories of all coma patients; any physical laws are suspended here, but other rules prevail that must first be understood.
The young man tries to find his way in this fragile and constantly changing world and joins a group of fellow doomed patients. While the group searches for a place in “Coma” that is safe from the dark monsters that haunt it, the newcomer really only wants one thing: to wake up!

“Coma” – Backgrounds
At first glance, the fragile world in “Coma” is somewhat reminiscent of “Inception”, even if the plot of the two films has little else in common. Nevertheless, just like in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning masterpiece, this parallel world of the Russian film is created by the mental power of “sleeping” people – but here involuntarily, because they are coma patients. For the Russian visual effects specialist Nikita Argunov (“Weltengänger”), “Coma” is the first feature film he has directed and written.
Besides Rinal Mukhametov (“Attraction 2: Invasion”), we see Vilen Babichev (“World Ganger”), Lyubov Aksyonova (“Jack Ryan”) and Aleksey Serebryakov (“Mc Mafia”) in leading roles.
Visually, the 20 million US dollar science fiction thriller does not have to shy away from international comparison, quite the opposite. German cinema-goers will be able to judge for themselves whether the film is convincing in other respects from 6 February 2020: “Coma” will be shown in selected cinemas in Russian with German subtitles.
