Plot and background
Astronaut Matt Kowalski and his inexperienced colleague Dr. Ryan Stone are on a routine mission outside their shuttle in Earth orbit when they are caught in a storm of satellite debris. Their colleagues are killed, the shuttle is destroyed, communication with the Houston headquarters breaks down, Ryan’s oxygen runs out. The only salvation is a walk through space to a Russian space station. But even there, the fight for survival is not over.
