Ghostbusters: Afterlife: The cult scary series from the 1980s will be continued – including the original cast!
Film plot and background
Today every child knows who to call when something is wrong in the neighbourhood. Already the first poster of the new “Ghostbusters” film was titled “You know who to call”, because the ghost hunters from New York are finally back after an absence of more than 30 years!
In the 1980s there were already two “Ghostbusters” films in which the now cult quartet consisting of Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as ghost hunters ensured law and order in New York and took care of paranormal problems of all kinds. After years of back and forth, the long-awaited sequel to the original film series is now coming. The events of the reboot are disregarded.
The trailer for the sequel continues the legacy in “Ghostbusters: Legacy”:
“Ghostbusters: Legacy” – Storyline
Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), her brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and their single mother Callie (Carrie Coon) move together to the small town of Summerville. There, their grandfather, now deceased, has left them his mysterious house, where many secrets are waiting to be discovered. While Callie and substitute teacher Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd) get to know each other better, the kids rummage around for the secrets of their deceased grandfather. He belonged to the legendary ghost hunters in New York.
When the small town is haunted by mysterious earthquakes, the kids finally find out what is really going on with the help of the dusty old ghost hunter equipment. The teenagers set to work to confront the new threat. In doing so, they seek contact with the still living ghost hunters: Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Akroyd), Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dr. Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson). Perhaps the old companions of Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) can shed some light on the matter.

“Ghostbusters: Legacy” background and cast
As early as the 1990s, Dan Akroyd was working on a script for a possible third “Ghostbusters” film, which was approved by the studio, but was less well received by his fellow actors. Since then, there have been repeated attempts to realise another feature film with the popular ghost hunters. Many projects failed because of the scripts submitted, and the original team was supposed to return. Bill Murray expressed several times that he had had enough of sequels and was not interested in another “Ghostbusters” film. In addition, franchise co-founder and leading actor Harold Ramis died in 2014.
Against all odds, the time has finally come in 2021! The final script comes from Gil Kenan (“Poltergeist”) and Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed and wrote the first two films. Like his father, Jason sits in the director’s chair. In front of the camera, alongside Dan Akroyd, there is also a reunion with Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts. Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”) and Mckenna Grace (“Annabelle 3”) will play the teenage ghost hunters. Marvel’s “Ant-Man” Paul Rudd will also be involved as a seismologist in the new “Ghostbusters” film. Even Bill Murray was persuaded once again to step in front of the camera for “Ghostbusters: Legacy”.
