Creed 3 pulverises the lofty revenue forecasts. The Rocky spin-off emancipates itself from its creator with a bang: Slyvester Stallone.
The Rocky franchise apparently doesn’t need its creator Sylvester Stallone at all. Creed III continues the spin-off series with Michael B. Jordan. In the first two parts, the action actor was still there as a mentor. In Creed III, the character was absent for the first time in the history of the series. This did not hurt the film or its box office receipts.
Without Sylvester Stallone: These are the box office takings of Creed 3
As Variety reports, the boxing film exceeded even the most lofty expectations in its first weekend. There was talk of a maximum of 40 million US dollars. Michael B. Jordan’s Duel with Jonathan Majors managed 58.7 million US dollars – a record for the series. (Read more about the background here: This is why Sylvester Stallone is not in Creed 3)
What is Creed 3 about?
Adonis “Donnie” Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has reached a good point in his life: His career as a boxer is flourishing, as is his family existence with Tessa Thompson as Bianca. (Get the huge Rocky box with all films now *)
But then Damian “Dame” Anderson (Jonathan Majors) enters the scene. In their childhood, he and Adonis were close friends and Damian was touted as a boxing genius. Then he went to prison for a very long time and the two lost contact. Now he is back and wants to prove himself – in the ring. So the former friends become fierce opponents.
Creed 3 has also been in cinemas in Germany since the beginning of March. By the way, unlike in the USA, the series is still called “Rocky’s Legacy” here.
