For nine-year-old Nick (Ilan Debrabant), his friends are the be-all and end-all. Together they are called the “Invincibles”. When Nick has to present his father’s (Jean-Paul Rouve) profession for a homework assignment, he first seeks help from his mother (Audrey Lamy). The father finally takes him to the office, but there he gets an important message from his boss Mr. Maßbaum (Pierre Arditi). The father is to manage a field office in the south of France, a promotion he has been working towards for a long time.
But the news hits Nick like a blow. He doesn’t want to leave his friends behind and start a new life somewhere else. So he decides to join the Invincibles in following a treasure map. Maybe the treasure chest holds the big money he needs to convince his father to stay.
“Little Nick on a treasure hunt” – background, cast, cinema release
In France and Belgium, the comics about “Little Nick” have long been cult. The duo René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé published numerous everyday stories about the little boy between 1959 and 1964, which enjoyed great popularity not only among the youngest readers.
Director and screenwriter Julian Rappenau (“Rosalie Blum”) wanted to publish a new story about little Nick, but read all available comics and books in preparation to capture the slightly ironic yet endearing tone of the series. His film, however, has nothing in common with previous live-action adaptations from 2009 and 2014.
For the main roles, he won Jean-Paul Rouve (“Life is a Feast”) and Audrey Lamy (“The Splendour of the Invisible”) as well as up-and-coming talent Ilan Debrebant in the title role. Little Nick on a Treasure Hunt” opens in German cinemas on 2 June 2022.
