“Goldfinger”? “Casino Royale?” Or “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” after all? No way! A survey conducted in the UK has now found out which James Bond adventure is really the absolute highlight of the series.
When people debate the “James Bond” franchise, it’s usually only in the direction of which James Bond actor is actually the best of all time. The decision is then mostly fought out between Sean Connery and Daniel Craig. But that also leads to the next point of contention: Which “James Bond” film is actually the absolute highlight of the series? Is it “Goldfinger”? Or rather “Casino Royale”?
A survey conducted by the betting company William Hill Vegas in Great Britain has now provided an answer to this question. 3,500 people were asked which “James Bond” adventure is their absolute favorite. With 17.5% of the vote, “Skyfall” with Daniel Craig from 2012 came out on top. Second place behind was “Goldfinger” (8.5%) with Sean Connery, while “No Time to Die,” the last Bond film with Daniel Craig, came in third with 7%.
A not so surprising choice, since the Sam Mendes-directed “Skyfall” is considered one of the best 007 films ever anyway (on the reviews aggregation site RottenTomatoes, the blockbuster comes in at a sensational 92%!). The same is true of “Goldfinger”, which also makes itself comfortable in first place in many Bond best lists. In the case of the William Hill Vegas survey, the Daniel Craig adventure was able to assert itself and once again underline the special position it enjoys in the franchise.
At the moment, the “James Bond” series has come to a bit of a standstill after “No Time to Die”. There is still the question of who will have the privilege of succeeding Daniel Craig and enjoying breakneck adventures on the big screen as the next double-zero agent. It is also unclear who will direct the next film. Fans would like to see “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan. But whether anything will really come of it? Hard to imagine, but not impossible…
