No, that’s not “Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki in “Sex Education”.

A new addition to Season 4 of “Sex Education” seems to be causing some confusion for fans of the Netflix hit. As teacher Mr. Malloy, we don’t see “Leonard” Johnny Galecki here, but “Schitt’s Creek” star Dan Levy.

In addition to the familiar cast of characters around Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), “Sex Education” presents us with all kinds of new characters in the final fourth season. Among them is the celebrated best-selling author Thomas Malloy, who is a guest professor at a US university and teaches the creative writing course for which Maeve got one of the coveted places in season 3.

But how does one actually know the actor who plays Mr. Malloy? There seems to be more confusion about this than one might have suspected before. Because as frequent Google queries about the fourth “Sex Education” season suggest and some of them can also be read in the social media, many people think they have recognised Johnny Galecki in Mr. Malloy, who was seen in twelve seasons of the hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” as lovable nerd Leonard Hofstadter. So let’s just reiterate here: Mr. Malloy will NOT be played by Johnny Galecki in the final “Sex Education” season.

DAN LEVY INSTEAD OF JOHNNY GALECKI IN “SEX EDUCATION” SEASON 4

In truth, we see Dan Levy here as a writer and teacher who takes the wind out of Maeve’s writing ambitions in a not-so-friendly way. And it’s by no means the first time that the 40-year-old Canadian has been mistaken for the “Big Bang Theory” star, who is eight years older than him. For comparison, here you can see him again in a look that at least resembles Dan Levy’s a little more:

Even Dan Levy himself pointed out such a mix-up in 2012 on the short message service X, then known as Twitter – and reaped many comments in which all kinds of users were also of the opinion that the two actors look damn much alike:

According to Jedward, I’m irrefutably Johnny Galecki.

By the way, Dan Levy is also best known for a hit sitcom, which is still far less well-known in this country in particular than “The Big Bang Theory” – but quite unfairly so! The celebrated series “Schitt’s Creek”, which has won several of the most important television awards, the Golden Globe and the Emmy, is not only in our list of the best sitcoms of all time, but even ranks a few places ahead of the long-running “The Big Bang Theory.

In the series highlight, everything revolves around a rich family that suddenly loses its entire fortune due to missed tax payments and is then forced to stay in a run-down motel in the titular small town that the father once gave his son as a gag gift for his birthday. Dan Levy is not only an absolute scene-stealer here as said son David, but also created the series together with his real father Eugene Levy (who also plays his series father in “Schitt’s Creek”), known among other things from the “American Pie” films.

Since the end of “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020, Dan Levy has starred in an episode of the HBO scandal series “The Idol” and in a supporting role in the Disney flop “Ghost Mansion”, among others – and is now also part of the motley “Sex Education” cast.
