You like underdog stories with sad moments but also a lot of laughs? You like excitingly told true stories from the business world? Then watch the trailer “Blackberry – Click of a Generation” here:

“Blackberry – Click of a Generation” tells the moving, in parts very funny, but also unbelievable and yet true story about the inventors of the Blackberry smartphone. They are a bunch of nerds who had a decisive influence on our world as we know and experience it today. The mastermind behind the satirically tinged biopic is Matt Johnson, the director, writer and lead actor of “Operation Avalanche.”

“Blackberry – Click of a Generation” opens in German cinemas nationwide on December 7, 2023.

Johnson wrote his screenplay based on the non-fiction bestseller “Losing The Signal: The Untold Story Behind The Extraordinary Rise And Spectacular Fall Of Blackberry” by business journalists Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff. You can also order the volume here in English:

In addition to Johnson, Glenn Howerton (“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”) and the always funny Jay Baruchel from “Tropic Thunder” and most recently “Fubar” can be experienced in the leading roles. In other key parts are Kelly Van Der Burg (“ES Chapter 2”), Cary Elwes (“Saw”), Saul Rubinek (“Merciless”), Hollywood veteran Michael Ironside (“Total Recall”), Rich Sommer (“Fair Play”) and Martin Donovan from “Weeds. “

“BLACKBERRY”: THIS IS THE STORY

However, the CEOs of the Canadian tech start-up Research In Motion (RIM for short) are simply not taken seriously by anyone in the business world.

That’s why Mike hires ice-cold businessman Jim Balsillie (Howerton) as the new co-managing director. With his help, the inventors soon convince the big players on the market of their visionary idea of the first smartphone. Just a few years later, Blackberry is one of the most profitable companies in the world.

However, their newfound, immeasurable wealth also increases the arrogance of the former underdogs. Mike, for example, calls the iPhone announced by rival Apple a piece of junk that will never catch on …
