Next year, a massive fantasy project is coming to Netflix: one of the most popular animated series is getting a live-action remake. Right now, compare the drawn cast to the real cast of Avatar: Lord of the Elements.
Netflix is remaking the animated series of the same name (2005-2008) from the U.S. with the big fantasy series Avatar: Lord of the Elements. After the recent Netflix success of One Piece, fans are eagerly awaiting the next remake of an animated original. So far, only 2024 is known as the approximate start date. Presumably, the series will come in the first half of the year.
First images already revealed the stars of Netflix’s real series remake, which should make us forget about the flopped cinema version The Legend of Aang (2010). We contrast the animated cast with the new cast to give you a first taste of the new Avatar series.
Avatar: Lord of the Elements – Compares the cast of Netflix’s fantasy series to its predecessors
The first announcement teaser for Avatar: Lord of the Elements (The Last Airbender) came back in June 2023, but did not yet show any characters in action. But Netflix already revealed the complete cast of the new Avatar series and showed some of them in first pictures now in full costume. We present the new actors and actresses for direct comparison with their drawn fantasy role models.
Gordon Cormier plays Aang in Netflix’s Avatar cast
The main character of the Avatar series is the boy Aang, from the Air Nomads. In a world where different tribes can control the elements, he is the last of his extinct kind: an airbender. He is to become the Chosen One, the titular Lord of the Elements, by learning to control air, earth, water and fire. Otherwise, the warlike Fire Nation threatens to subjugate the land for good.
Kiawentiio plays Katara in Netflix’s Avatar: Lord of the Elements
Katara is a waterbender with the ability to heal. She joins Aang’s journey with her brother Sokka and becomes his closest ally and good friend.
Ian Ousley embodies Sokka in Netflix’s Avatar
Katara’s brother Sokka is a fighter of the Water Tribe. He can’t control elements but is good with weapons, and joins Aang as well.
Dallas Liu is Prince Zuko in Netflix’s Avatar remake
As the son of Fire Lord Ozai, Zuko is a prince and firebender, but he has fallen from grace. By capturing the last airbender, Aang, he aims to restore his honor.
New Avatar cast: Daniel Dae Kim is Fire Lord Ozai
Lord Ozai is the tyrannical ruler of the Fire Nation, who unleashes a hundred-year war to rise as king of the entire world. Besides his exiled son Zuko, he also has a daughter: Princess Azula.
Elizabeth Yu mimes Azula for Netflix
Unlike Zuko, Azula has not fallen out of favor with her father Ozai. She, as a sadistic firebender, is given the task of hunting both Aang and her brother.
Ken Leung plays Commander Zhao in Netflix’s Avatar remake
The ferocious firebender Zhao is an admiral of Fire Lord Ozai’s fleet, dedicated to the mission of capturing the Avatar before anyone else.
Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is Uncle Iroh
Unlike most hot-blooded and power-mad Firebenders, such as his brother Ozai, Iroh is a calm, wise man of the Fire Nation and was once a mentor to his nephew Zuko.
Appa is also back in the Netflix series
Appa is a fantasy creature, a flying sky bison, and not only Aang’s mount, but also his friend.
