A new X-Men series is set to launch on Disney+ in just a few days. Shortly before the premiere, the creative head of the project has now been fired – even though he was involved in Moon Knight and Blade.
It happens time and again that film and series creators in Hollywood are unexpectedly pulled from their projects. This is often due to creative differences behind the scenes. Sometimes the problems are more profound. The latest case from Marvel is causing a stir due to its timing.

Beau DeMayo, the creator of the animated Marvel series X-Men ’97, was fired a few days before the start of the series. In fact, the Hollywood Reporter broke the news the day before the Hollywood premiere. The series starts next Wednesday on Disney+. Now she is without her creative head

X-Men ’97: Beau DeMayo fired from Disney+ one week before the start of the new Marvel series

DeMayo’s dismissal comes as a shock to many Marvel fans. After all, he has worked on several projects from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in recent years. He co-wrote the third episode of Moon Knight. He also wrote a draft for the upcoming Blade film.

Here you can watch the trailer for X-Men ’97:

In addition to his work as series creator, he was also involved in X-Men ’97 as a writer and producer. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he has even completed all his writing duties for the already ordered 2nd season. He is even said to have already thought about a possible 3rd season of the animated series.

However, he will not be on the red carpet at the premiere of his own work this Wednesday. All interviews during the promo tour have also been canceled. He has even deleted his Instagram account, on which DeMayo has regularly posted updates on the progress of the series in recent years.

The reason: unknown. Although The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to DeMayo’s reps, there has been no official statement. Speaking to Variety, Brad Winderbaum, one of the producing forces behind the series, had the following to say about DeMayo’s dismissal:

“[Beau DeMayo] did an outstanding job on seasons 1 and 2, and I can’t wait for fans to see the show. The entire team came together to create a revival worthy of the X-Men’s 60-year legacy.

Scooper Jeff Sneider, meanwhile, claims to have learned that working with [DeMayo] was “an absolute nightmare for Marvel employees.” In his newsletter The InSneider, Sneider also writes that Marvel was apparently not a fan of DeMayo’s OnlyFans account, which is described as “creepy.”
