In a video, Netflix announces the return of a much-loved series and also reveals that fans can look forward to an important new addition in season 3 of Heartstopper.
Heartstopper returns to Netflix for season 3. The series, based on the comics by Alice Oseman, has delighted audiences with an 8/10 rating on Moviepilot and an 8.6 on IMDb . It aims to build on this greatness in its first glimpse of the new season, which starts later this year. A long-awaited new character is finally included this time
Netflix’s Heartstopper returns for season 3
The Netflix series Heartstopper landed at number 1 of the Moviepilot community’s most popular series with its first season in 2022. After the euphoric reviews for season 2 of Heartstopper last year (96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes ), it was clear that a third season would also be coming.
The grounded love story of Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) matured in season 2 of Heartstopper by turning to increasingly adult themes. A trend the Netflix series will continue in season 3, according to Deadline: Mental health, sex and university ambitions are expected to play a role then, although the focus will of course remain on the characters’ relationships.

If you pay close attention in the video, you will notice from second 45 that Jenny Walser makes an ominous suggestion: the actress playing Charlie’s sister Tori Spring will not only be given more space in season 3, but will also “find a new boyfriend”. A mistake has clearly crept into the German subtitling of the Netflix clip (“neue Freundin”), because real Heartstopper fans have long known who we’re talking about when we say these words
Netflix teases Darragh Hand’s new character and a second book adaptation in season 3
Behind the scenes, it’s been clear for some time: Darragh Hand will play Michael Holden. The eccentric optimist is the antithesis of the pessimistic, introverted Tori and yet the two are inevitably drawn to each other. His introduction almost certainly means that another book by Alice Oseman will be secretly adapted within the 3rd season of Netflix’s Heartstopper.
At just 20 years old, British author Alice Oseman published her debut novel Solitaire in 2014. It is the story of Tori Spring, who has to deal with the hostility of her gay brother Charlie and meets a certain Michael Holden during this difficult time in her life.
While Charlie Spring was still a minor character in Solitaire, the entire Heartstopper universe was subsequently born out of this first book. The story of the two Netflix protagonists only followed later in the novella Nick and Charlie and the Heartstopper comics . Apparently, season 3 is now returning to the origins to add Tori’s story as well.
When will Heartstopper season 3 start on Netflix?
Netflix has announced the return of Heartstopper season 3 for October 2024, seven months from now. An exact date for the 8 new episodes has not yet been set. The rest of the cast around Charlie, Nick and Tori, i.e. Tao (William Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney), Isaac (Tobie Donovan) and co. will of course also return
