Goosebumps: Scary for kids about teenagers who have to take on a horror book author’s characters come to life.

Film plot and background

Teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minette) moves from the exciting cosmopolitan city of New York to the small town of Greendale. For a boy his age, this feels like a big step down, which is why Zach is not very excited about his new situation. However, this changes when he meets his neighbour Hannah (Odeya Rush). Zach takes a liking to her, but there is also her strange father. He is the idiosyncratic writer R. L. Stine (Jack Black), who has made a name for himself with his successful “Goosebumps” books. Stine’s strange behaviour has a good reason, however, because the horror author is keeping a dark secret: the monsters he includes in his stories are by no means fictional. They are real creatures that Stine keeps imprisoned in his manuscripts and thus protects the town of Greendale from an enormous threat. However, the disaster takes its course,

when Zach opens one of Stine’s books, freeing the monsters inside. In order to contain the danger that has been let loose, Zach, Hannah and Stine must work together and put an end to the horror before anyone is seriously harmed. Goosebumps” is a comedic film adaptation of the “Goosebumps” books, which are aimed primarily at a teenage readership. Since the books were first published in 1992, they have been translated into 32 languages and sold over 400 million copies worldwide. The cinema adaptation is not about a story of the books, but about the author R. L. Stine himself, who even took on a small role in “Goosebumps”.
