Dungeons & Dragons: adventure fantasy film set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant.
Plot and background
The new film for the mother of all role-playing games: A few dice, the rulebooks, a sheet of paper with a pen, a few friends and your own imagination – that’s all you need to play Dungeons & Dragons in your own home. Once created by game developers Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson in 1974, the pen&paper role-playing game has evolved into five different rule sets. A player can choose from numerous races and classes, enemies such as goblins, trolls, vampires, ghouls and, of course, dragons want to get at the game group.
“Dungeons & Dragons” – the plot
There are many adventurer groups on the Sword Coast, after all, there are all sorts of monsters and dragons that want to get at people. A bard (Chris Pine), a barbarian (Michelle Rodriguez), a paladin (Regé-Jean Page), a wizard (Justice Smith) and a druid (Sophia Lillis) have therefore joined forces to earn a good bit of money as thieves. However, when they helped the wrong person (Daisy Head) get a powerful artifact, suddenly the greatest evil the world has ever seen may be unleashed. Fortunately, the adventuring party is honorable, and so they set out on a grand adventure to right their mistake. In doing so, however, they will need some luck, after all, they are up against a red dragon.

“Dungeons & Dragons” movies
Especially in the 1980s, role-playing was frowned upon by the church as immoral. Not entirely innocent was the first film adaptation of the material “Mazes and Monsters” from 1982 with the young Tom Hanks. In 2000, another “Dungeons & Dragons” adaptation was shown in theaters, this time starring Jeremy Irons. Although the adaptation was not a great success at the box office, it at least spawned two sequels for home cinema.
After numerous legal tangles, a new edition of “Dungeons & Dragons” has now been launched on March 30, 2023. The filmmaking duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley took a seat in the director’s chair for this, after previously achieving a surprise success at the box office with “Game Night” in 2017. In it, a classic game night among friends (Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams) got completely out of hand, while the audience had a lot to laugh about.
