This is what Alien is about
The crew of the spaceship Nostromo are on their way back to Earth after an exploratory flight, but a distress signal lures them to an unknown planet. There, an alien organism attaches itself to one of the men, who turns into a terrible beast on board. The alien gruesomely kills one crew member after another. Second officer Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) tries to keep a cool head and takes up the fight.
Ripley – the first female action heroine in film history
Sigourney Weaver was the first female action heroine to equal her male counterparts. Screenwriters Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett had written a note in their script that all roles were unisex and could be played by either men or women. But even they were surprised when Ridley Scott actually decided to cast a woman in the lead role, which led to a dispute with the studio, as reported by Der Spiegel. The unknown Sigourney Weaver thus became the first major action heroine and changed the view of female characters in film.
This is how the franchise continues
There will be two more projects from the Alien universe that are currently in production. One is the Alien movie reboot Romulus, which has already been shot and is due to be released in cinemas on August 15, 2024. The story is to be told separately from the characters and events of the previous films.
Fans can also look forward to the first Alien series, for which The Mandalorian star Timothy Olyphant was recently cast as a new character. However, the Hollywood strike has severely slowed down production and all dates have been pushed back. Filming is set to resume at the beginning of 2024. It is still unclear when we will be able to see it on Disney+.
