The war series Masters of the Air is bolstering its pilot story based on true events with an additional film that also stars Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
After breaking streaming records, the acclaimed war series Masters of the Air ended with its 9th episode on Friday, March 15, 2024. To make it easier to say goodbye to the bomber pilots and their life-threatening missions, Apple TV+ is also releasing an additional film along with the series finale that provides even deeper insights: the documentary The Bloody Hundredth.
The war movie for the war series: The Bloody Hundredth delves deeper into the true story behind Masters of the Air
Although Masters of the Air will not be getting a second season, The Bloody Hundredth offers viewers the opportunity to delve a little deeper into the true story behind the US pilots in the Second World War. Although the war series is based on the non-fiction book of the same name* by Donald L. Miller, it remains a fictionalized narrative that is far from being able to depict everything.
With exclusive archive footage and interviews with survivors, the 1-hour documentary focuses on the real-life aviator role models of Gale Cleven (Austin Butler), John Egan (Callum Turner), Harry Crosby (Anthony Boyle) and Robert ‘Rosie’ Rosenthal (Nate Mann) and explains why the loss-making 100th bomber group was dubbed the “Bloody Hundredth.”

After Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg once again played a major role as executive producers in Masters of the Air, as in the previous war series Band of Brothers and The Pacific, they are even actively involved in the documentary: Spielberg appears in interviews in front of the camera to show his knowledge of history, and Tom Hanks takes on the role of the narrator of The Bloody Hundredth in the original English version
