22 years after 28 Days Later, the zombie smash hit is getting more sequels. The biggest James Bond favorite has also recently joined the cast.
In 2002, Trainspotting director Danny Boyle and Civil War director Alex Garland made 28 Days Later, one of the best zombie films of the last 20 years. Now the end-time blockbuster is to receive a sequel in the form of a complete film trilogy. In addition to Cillian Murphy, who starred in the film at the time, the sequel will also feature several other well-known stars – including the current biggest contender to become the new James Bond.
28 Years Later comes with James Bond contender Aaron Taylor-Johnson
As Deadline exclusively reports, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been signed to star in the first film of the 28 Years Later trilogy. The actor is currently in talks to succeed Daniel Craig as 007. He will be joined by Bond veteran Ralph Fiennes and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer, among others. Cillian Murphy is involved in the film as a producer and is also said to have expressed an interest in reprising the role of his character Jim from 28 Days Later.

While Danny Boyle will be back in the director’s chair for the first part of the film trilogy, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta has been hired for the second part. It is not yet clear who will direct the third part. Alex Garland is responsible for the screenplays for all three parts. Parts 1 and 2 are to be shot back-to-back under Sony Pictures and each have a budget of around 75 million US dollars
When will 28 Years Later with Aaron Taylor-Johnson be released in cinemas?
28 Years Later is currently still in the pre-production phase. A cinema release would be conceivable at the end of 2025 or 2026 if filming can begin this year.
