The end is near – twice over: as The Umbrella Academy heads towards its final 4th season, the superheroes must prepare for the end of the world
It’s almost meta that the superheroes in the 4th season of The Umbrella Academy are heading for the end of the world and are trying with all their might to prevent it. Because the end of the popular sci-fi series on Netflix has long been sealed. In just a few days, this will reach you in the form of 6 new and final episodes on the streamer – and with a bang.
The Umbrella Academy ends after 5 years with season 4
In 2019, the superhero series was launched on Netflix as an adaptation of the comic series of the same name by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way. The absurd sci-fi action quickly became a mega success for Netflix and showrunner Steve Blackman, who has added further seasons over the last five years.
Despite solid figures, the end of the series was announced in 2022 with the 4th season, while the Umbrella Academy universe was to be continued in spin-offs instead. However, The Sparrow Academy series was only canceled a few weeks ago. This was due to allegations made by former crew members against Blackman, who is said to have behaved toxically behind the scenes on several occasions. Whether there is still a future for the crazy superhero cosmos is still written in the stars.
