Netflix has followed suit and finally takes the 4th season The Rookie in the program. The opener, unfortunately, is a complete failure, as one main character is written out of the series really badly with a stopgap
Since March, seasons 1 to 3 of The Rookie have been available to stream on Netflix, and since 1 July, season 4 has finally been added. The police series enjoys great popularity, but the opening of season 4 holds a huge disappointment: A popular main character is promoted from the series in the worst way imaginable.
Warning, spoilers for The Rookie season 4 follow!
The Rookie season 4 on Netflix: The pointless character death was a stopgap because the actor didn’t return
Sometimes screenwriters:inside have to get creative because stars don’t want to return to series like Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. In the season 4 opener of The Rookie, this led to the most disappointing moment of the entire series: main character Jackson West (Titus Makin Jr.), in the main cast since the first episode, is killed off the show without a sound.
No one expects Jackson to die at the beginning of season 4. And the way he is written out of the series is just bizarre. Since Titus Makin Jr. didn’t want to do another scene for unspecified reasons, the season 4 opener only shows his double in a scene from behind – and shot.
This is how Jackson West dies in The Rookie: At the end of season 3, Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) is kidnapped at her wedding. It’s not until the beginning of season 4 that we learn that Jackson West is also a kidnapping victim. But we only see a video recording in which he is supposed to get into a car. As he resists, he is shot and put in the boot. That’s it.
“What I can say is that Titus did not return to series, so we had to find the best possible solution to do justice to this character who was so important to the series from the beginning. “
That Titus Makin Jr. wants to leave the series in general was not a big surprise. That’s why it’s even more disappointing that no sensible ending was found.
The Jackson actor already discovered flaws with the series during season 2. He therefore wanted the showrunner to deal more with racism within the police force, reports Entertainment Weekly . Season 3 then tried to address the issue with the character of Doug Stanton, Jackson West’s new and racist supervisor.
